Job Description
The student account counselor is a full time staff position in the Enrollment Financial Services department who supports the university goal of delivering high-quality, accessible, Christ-centered education by providing exceptional customer service that is reflected in every encounter. Responsibilities include customer service on the phone, in person, and through email, student account billing, taking payments, clearing incoming students to start classes, managing the book voucher process, and other duties as assigned.

Required Experience / Education
  • Christian Commitment: Vital Christian faith and lifestyle
  • Supportive of the evangelical mission and purpose of Azusa Pacific University College and the Azusa Pacific University System
  • Associate’s degree
  • Related experience in student accounts, financial aid, banking, or other financial industry.

Desired Experience / Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2 years in a financial services role in the higher education setting.
Primary Duties
  • Primary point of contact for students with questions regarding their tuition bill, financial aid, refunds, book vouchers, etc.
  • Works closely with program representatives and student success coaches to provide clarity regarding tuition charges and financial aid awards.
  • Financially clearing all new students before the start of every session by reviewing accounts, taking payments, and working closely with admissions processing to troubleshoot any issues.
  • Point person for the book voucher request process. Receive requests from students and create voucher with the APU bookstore, as well as monitoring receipts posted to the student’s account.
  • Maintain military indicators in student information system.
  • Works closely with program representatives to manage required financial aid documents in the financial aid software.
  • Adheres to the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Carries out other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Manager of Enrollment Financial Services

  • Ability to work collaboratively across organizational units specifically related to student accounts and financial aid
  • Knowledge of general office methods, procedures and practices
  • A positive, cooperative, Christ-like attitude supportive of the University and its mission
  • Ability to adapt to a changing, fast-paced environment
  • Proven customer service record with culturally diverse and non-traditional students
  • Strong command of the English language with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, with an ability to plan and manage multiple projects concurrently in a timely manner
  • Ability to explain complex financial statements to students in a clear, concise, and accurate manner
